We believe that children learn by doing…

That by painting, cooking, woodworking, singing, climbing, jumping…

That by sharing and playing with others in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which is structured enough to offer security, yet open enough to foster creativity and independence…

Children develop healthy personalities, self-direction, inner control and gain satisfaction from expressing their own ideas, completing tasks, learning to care for and about others

And experience cognitive, physical and social growth.

OUR SCHOOL
The Erdman Preschool was established in 1971 to provide an enriching and creative educational experience for young children. It has grown from a school for eight children, begun by Margaret Erdman in her home, to a school serving over 100 families in Scituate and neighboring communities. The School is a non-profit organization and does not discriminate in providing services to children or their families on the basis of race, religion, cultural heritage, national origin, political beliefs, gender, marital status or disabilities. We welcome all children because we believe that children learn so much from each other.

OUR TEACHERS
All teachers at Erdman Preschool have standard professional credentials, some advanced degrees and are licensed by the Massachusetts Office for Child Care Services. All have qualities of warmth, flexibility and sensitive regard for the uniqueness of each child. Teachers meet with parents of new students each Fall. Conferences are scheduled twice a year, or upon request. Frequent, open communication between teachers and parents benefits both home and school.

OUR FAMILIES
One of the unique qualities of Erdman Preschool is the degree of parent involvement in all levels of the school’s operation. Parents and grandparents are welcome to observe their children in the classroom at any time. Volunteering in the classroom, chaperoning field trips, helping with snack and special projects are experiences that benefit both the child and the parent. Our fall Open House is an evening for the entire family to visit the school. It is an opportunity to meet teachers, classmates parents, enjoy refreshments made by each class, try out favorite materials and view children’s work The Parent Education Committee provides information and opportunities of educational value and interest to parents. Selected literature is available and knowledgeable speakers and programs are presented throughout the year. Most meetings are held in the evenings.
