Afternoon Explorers

Let's explore the world around us.

More of what your child loves about Erdman! This extended day enrichment program is for children in 4's classes who would enjoy additional time exploring curriculum-based, hands-on literacy, math, science, creative arts, physical development and social experiences.

Nature based activities are a main component of Explorers!

Registration for Explorers begins when your child enrolls. It is first come, first served and is ongoing throughout the year, as space allows. There is a maximum of 12 children.

Program

Each day will focus on one special project as well as time for cooperative free play, quiet time, snack and plenty of outdoor time.

Explorer activities will not be the same as classroom activities. The emphasis is on fun and learning with friends in a small group taught by two Erdman teachers.

Daily Schedule

Explorers meets on Tuesday and/or Wednesday afternoons. You may register for one or both afternoons for the year.

Lunch Bunch 11:30 - 1:00 (fee included)

Explorers enjoy outdoor time, lunch, free play games, and stories with friends.

Quiet Time 1:00 - 1:30

After lunch we begin with a “quiet time." Your child will need to bring a regular sized beach towel to school; small cuddly stuffed animals are optional. We play soothing music and listen to books on CD. This quiet time enables children to have some down time, hone their listening skills, and learn to calm themselves.

Classroom Time 1:30 - 2:30

After quiet time we have a meeting where we read a story and talk about activities we will be doing. Then we play and explore our activities, enjoy snack inside, then head out to the playground.

Outdoor Time 2:30 - 3:30

Our playground experiences are varied and can include science “projects," charades, dramatic play, volcanoes, games, water play, mud, snow, building, planting, nature scavenger hunts, short hikes and open exploration! We LOVE to explore, learn and play outside. Pick up is 3:30 out on the playground (weather permitting).

Late Pick-Up Option

Extend your child's afternoon of play! Our Late Pick-Up option is available from 3:30-4:00 for an additional $5/day.

Registration & Cost

Registration for Explorers and all Extended Day Programs is first come, first served and is ongoing through the semester as space allows.

The cost per month is $144. This fee includes a guaranteed place in Lunch Bunch.
